An oldie but goodie.

At 2:17, the presenter goes over a few OE filter end caps. Interesting.

It's really amazing how many "Fram is crap" videos are out there because of the fiber end caps. I thought K&N AF had it rough but consumers are bombarded with misinformation on these filter.

Absolutely. Metal end caps are superior. Just look at Purolator.

Fram probably outsells other brands at least 2:1 and the statistics don't support the notion that Fram is an inferior construction.

How do they justify the lack of filter media against the (often lower priced) competition

I haven't bought a filter with a metal end cap for years. It's either plastic like on my BMW or none at all.

Would I get more miles out of my cars if my filters had metal end caps?

Any day ... AC Delco are better with or without metal caps ...

Agreed

And notice right where most of those infamous filters tear ...

I cut some new ones just to see how easy it was ... we have tougher paper on the Xerox machine ... The blended filters are another story ... they seem to have tensile strength ...

So the top filters like a M1 or Amsoil Ea have metal end caps. So I will conclude that manufacturers feel the metal end caps are better.

However the cardboard end caps are probably fine for normal OCI.

An oil change with a Fram orange can is better than no oil change.

Amsoil like the RP and FU need metal to tie with the wire mesh that keeps the glass from cratering ...

Mobil 1 has thick blended media - and CL pots the heck out of those - probably part of the initial acceptance criteria ...

Based on my AC Delco filters and Denso filters ... some fiber ends (or no ends) are done better than others - Fram still sells these things ... Not for me ...

This I'm sure not going to pay a premium price for just metal end caps. Fram Tough Guards seem to be doing just fine when I use them.

Any info on the filtering efficiency of the ACDelco filters?
