I acquired an X box 360 Turtle Beach headset that had a broken cord. First I fixed the cord entering the headset itself.
I then rmoved the RCA plugs that originally T'd off of the TV inputs from the gaming console, as well as the USB cord.
I then gutted the electronics from the small inline box that housed volumes and the jack for game chat from the game controller. I then soldered an old headphone extension cord and detachable speaker cord directly to the headset cable.
I then placed the soldered wires into the same inline box and potted it with epoxy.
Voilà, a great sounding PC Gaming headset for free.
