Hey folks,

Decided to try a different oil to combat the low viscosity that I was having with the Yamalube 10w-30. Went with West Marine 4 stroke 10w-40 this time. Unfortunately, I don't think the large amount of idling we do helps these motors, but its the nature of our work. Never noticed a significant rise in the oil level of the port motor though. I did skip doing an analysis on the last oil change as it was a short interval and went ahead and did this latest one which was closer to 100 hour interval.

I am not impressed with any West Marine 4 stroke oil. If it were mine, I would probably use Amsoil 10w40. Do you do a lot of trolling ? The Fuel and flashpoint are a bit off- perhaps a checkup of your ignition is in order. Maybe a badly gapped plug, or a coil that is marginal.

Marine engines get hit from both sides with FD issues. High load and rpm does it. Idling does it. Marine engines spend most of their time either idling or at higher load and rpm.

At least this oil hung on pretty good, and wear metals got a tick better.
