Subaru Super Coolant - 05/26/19 10:10 PM

Does Subaru suggest using their coolant conditioner when changing coolant in later model cars? I've read that might have been only for mid 2000 model years.

Yes, the 2015 WRX service manual states:

2. FILLING OF ENGINE COOLANT

1) Pour cooling system conditioner through the filler neck of coolant filler tank.
Cooling system protective agent:
Refer to “SPECIFICATION” for cooling system protective agent. <Ref. to CO(STI)-2, SPECIFICATION, General Description.>

2) Fill the engine coolant into coolant filler tank up to the filler neck position.

The "cooling system protective agent" is listed as P/N SOA345001 in the manual.

I wonder why its not listed in the owner's manual. Changing the coolant must be beyond what they figure the average owner is capable of...

It used to be stated on earlier models, but for some reason they changed the manual to imply that it's not owner servicable.

Yes. You would think they could list it in the fluids/capacity section. Or maybe the thinking is with a suggested 137k service interval its not a service done a lot.
