Does anyone know whether the front axles are driven via the transmission or the transfer case on most of these modern transverse engine mounted AWD SUVs these days? I'm used to old school technology where it goes engine - transmission -transfer case - font axles!

Thanks!

Transmission is the drive, well technically the differential in the transmission. The transfer case or Power Transfer Unit is a pass through that just sends torque to the prop shaft.

On the Hyundai and Nissan FWD/awd vehicles I've owned, the PTU or T-case is bolted to the right side output on the transaxle and the right side CV shaft runs through it.

I've done that a few times, too! Glad to know I'm not the only one
