Started looking at the Differential Vent on my Ford Ranger.
Never had a problem with it / just a 5/16" rubber hose extend up to frame.

I decided to ADD a Fuel Filter and Hose extending 'down' to keep water out.
May be over-kill, but now I know NO DIRT will be getting thru rubber hose to the Differential.
New Hose and Filter $10.

Nice setup. I probably should do that on my trucks. The fitting coming off the axle tube on my 94 Ranger was completely blocked when I got it.

One automaker, Toyota maybe, used to use plastic bellows that expanded or contracted as necessary and were sealed to keep dirt and moisture out. Always thought those were clever.

coming from rusty Massachusetts my lo mile frontier blew an axle seal + clogged -rusted vent was said to be a possible contributor. costly as axle had to be pulled so new bearing + collar as well, OE parts as nothing-the unique seal for the dana-nissan was anywhere to be found beside a stealer, $170 parts + local indy only $100 labor
