I've got a Cub Cadet (residential) zero turn mower. The left trans (their hydraulic systems are completely sealed and separate) developed a leak, which I've since fixed. I'm not sure how low it is (yet). The owners manual essentiall says it's not user serviceable and to take it to the dealer, therefore I don't need to know what to put in it

I called the dealer and asked, he said 20 weight hydraulic oil. I e-mailed cub cadet (only way to contact them) and even gave them the serial # of my unit. They say 20w-50 motor oil. These two recommendations are VASTLY different.
Who to believe? Any recommendations?

If you don't have an owners manual, try the CC website for a download. The hydro-gear drive on my (2005 model) 2544 specs "cub cadet drive system fluid plus" which is around $9/qt. I contacted HG directly to see what they would recommend. HG would not go against CC's spec .

HG hydrostatic drives typically spec a 15w-40.
