Just curious - I poked around and could not find the filter efficiency numbers for this. That is, I can't find any of the Beta(x)=N ratings.

Did you run across that?

the filter i use on my car (97 cutlass supreme 3.1 v6) is a stratapore spin on
they say it is
LF3554
100% @ 30 micron
73% @ 10 micron
The downgrade cell version is
95% @ 30 micron
30% @ 10 micron

So the LF777 isnt a WHOLE lot better then my original Stratapore factory spin on, huh?

Doesn't "nominal" usually mean beta(x)=2? That being the case, it would remove half of the 5 micron particles. Did I do that right?

But then what does that "Beta Ratio: 2/10=19/31" mean?

If it's beta(2)=19 and beta(10)=31, that would indicate removal of 95% of 2 micron and 97% of 10 micron. In which case, it's pretty good for a (relatively) cheap spin-on.

The WIX stats are confusing. This should, by the beta numbers, be a 19um nominal filter (which is unlikely).

In this case I would accept the 5um figure. There's nothing bypass about a 19um filter. [I dont know]

That's 50% of the 19um and 95% of the 31um.

The WIX numbers are very confusing. I don't think it could be as bad as beta(19 microns)=2.

That's why I was asking about the meanings. It would make sense as a bypass filter if it was beta (2 microns) = 19. My confusion was about the "5 micron nominal" rating.

Fitzhugh ..if you look at any of the Wix beta specs ..they're all 2/20 ..followed by any variation of numbers. This is the 50% and 95% ratings for the second set of numbers.

It's always 2/20 = xx/yy

This one works: 51515

Beta Ratio: 2/20=19/41
Burst Pressure-PSI: 270
Max Flow Rate: 7-9 GPM
Nominal Micro Rating: 19

Many do not [I dont know]

But I can reasonably assure you that there is no bypass filter offered in a spin-on that is that fine (2um). There are hydraulic filters that are very fine, but none that are designed for engines. The Amsoil bypass is allegedly 3um absolute.

I got my Wix 24750 bypass filter head for >$15 at Rock Auto,
and a couple of Wix 51749 filters (they are HUGE)

The flow through will be restricted to less than 2 quarts per minute,
so the filter will have a long, long, long time to catch the small stuff.

It looks like it holds at least 1/2 gallon of oil by itself....

This filter head is still being closed out at RockAuto, 14.95 .
The Wix 51749 listed specs are 2/10=5/14, so I assume that means 50% at 5 microns and 95% at 14 microns. It's about 15.00 if you look around. Seems to me to be a pretty good bypass setup for DIY.
Linctex, any results to post or updates?

Wix 51749 crosses to a Baldwin B7577 and an ACDelco P940 which happens to be 2.10 on RockAuto.
You could easily setup a budget bypass filter for under 50.00 .
ACDelco is not specific about their specs, only that it is a 5 micron filter.

Filter Media Material Cellulose
Height 9.7 IN
Height 246.4 MM
Anti-Drain Back Valve No

Gasket Material Synthetic Rubber
Gasket Thickness 0.365 IN
Gasket Thickness 9.271 MM
Inner Diameter Top 1.37 IN
