Here's the 2nd great car on the same garage lot - a '69 Impala. The '69 is tied with the '63 as my favourite full-size Chevy. Heresy, but as nice as this 2-dr notchback is, I prefer the 4-dr sedan or hardtop. It's equipped with the ubiquitous 350 (which was new for that year). The base V8 for 1969 was the 327.

Still amazes me how large cars were back then. That color looks great in the sun.

Is the license plate scrambled by you or some technology did it?

I scrambled it with photo-editing software. It's a collector plate, so does not use our current provincial plate colours.

Not only how large, but how POORLY they do in crash tests despite all that sheet metal. Still, car's from that era are absolutely beautiful and this is a perfect example.

I'm quite sure the engine line up went like this;
I never saw a 3 on the tree or 4 speed on any of the V8s.
I think the 307 and 327s were gone after 68.

250 cid I-6 150 T250 & 3 on the tree.
350 cid V8 250 T350
350 cid V8 300 T350
396 cid V8 265 T400
427 cid v8 390 T400

The big dealership in the Peg back in the day was Holiday Chev Olds.
The Haddad's sold and opened Surrey Flag Chev.

I've personally seen a 1969 Impala SS350 with a Muncie 4 speed & the factory build sheet to prove it, I'm sure there were plenty of SS396 4 speed cars as well, And the Powerglide was still the standard automatic option for straight six & small block engines.

The TH250 wasn't produced 'til '73/'74 IIRC?

Is that color Metallic Pea?

The front ends on those were great looking. The boat tail rear didn't match though. Big heavy doors. Don't get your finger slammed in those.

Nice trip down memory lane.

My dad had that same year/color in a 4 door as a company car. He bought it from his company and my sibs and I all drove it. I think he had Earl Scheib re-paint it the same color, worst paint job I ever saw at my young age.

You were hoping for the 250 inline-6, right?

I remember Holiday out on W Portage! But how about Terry Balkan Chev-Olds (with Brother Lou)? "You betcha!" Weren't they downtown on the W side of Main St? I bought a float for a Rochester 2-bbl there many years ago.

The 307 was the base engine for the '68 MY only - it succeeded the 283, and was replaced for '69 by the 327. It soldiered on until, I believe, 1973, where it could still be found in the Nova, but 1968 was the only year it was offered in the full-size Chevys.

I believe the 327 was gone from the full-size line up for 1970. (I know there was one in '69 - in '82 I transplanted a 327/TH from a '69 into my '68. The 327/TH replaced a very tired 307/Powerglide.)

I didn't even know there was such a thing as a TH250 - live and learn. Also, at one point I owned a '71 Biscayne - it had the 250 inline-6 and a 2-speed Powerglide, so I'm pretty sure the Powerglide was still offered in the full-size lineup in '69.

My parents bought a 69 Pontiac station wagon. That was the year they had the rubber front nose you could hit with a baseball bat. 396 2 barrel 265 hp T400, 2.56 12 bolt posi.
VIN 7563691138291 or something like that..Canadian built Pontiac had Chev engines in 69. Purchased at Brandon Automobiles that was the Murray's first dealership.
I think Dan Murray runs the Peg dealership on Bishop. They've done ok by me since expanding out west in 06. 4 new trucks and a used mini van.

That would have a "large journal" 327. I'm starting to think there was a mid year change to the engine line up.
. Maybe cars built after April 69 had 350s and the earlier builds 327s.
Canadian Chevs and Pontiac were assembled in Oshawa, Ontario and all had chev engines. Our 69 Pontiac had a BBC 396 which was actually a 402 in 69.

I remember those plastic battering rams on the front of the Pontiacs of that era. Yes, the Dan Murray car empire has thrived. You're right, Murray Chev is in the Waverley Auto Mall, just off Bishop Grandin. They also have a Hyundai dealership in the same mall. I had to look them up - they're right across western Canada now. Knew they'd started in western Manitoba, had no idea they'd gone to other provinces. They are big philanthropists - they've given lots back to the community.
