Our garbage truck offers curb side pickup which is great.

What an easy car to change oil on! Except I'm pretty sure the head on the drain bolt is softer than silly putty. I ordered a new one. They obviously aren't made from reasonably solid metal.

In assuming this wasn't the first oil change on that Subie....
Oil Change Shops (dealers too) can easily reveal the softer metal oil pan drain plugs.
There should be a basic agreement everywhere that all shops not use power tools for basic passenger vehicle oil changes.

I've turned to the dark side; I bought and used a MityVac fluid extractor.
Sucked out nearly 5 quarts of Kirkland 0w20. Left the Fram XG7317.
Poured in 5 quarts of Kirkland 0w20.

Reversed the switch to pump the dirty oil into a milk jug for curbside recycling.
I spilled a few drops here and there, just for old time's sake.
It really emptied the pan; perhaps this engine is a good candidate for the extractor.

Not a bad deal overall. 2 thumbs up.
By the way, that Kirkland stuff seems pretty good. I see zero reason to use dino...

You spilling a few drops meant your vehicle liked Kirkland so much, that it began gagging / choking / spitting on the purge.
Add two ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil next time, to sweeten the taste.

At my previous job, we had a salesperson take a brand new 2016 F-150, 2.7 Ecoboost to 28k with no oil change. It wasn't down any oil, but crude black. I took it in for a change immediately and then personally drove the truck for 10k myself. It was a smoker after that change. Did a 2500, then a 5000 mile change, and it was fine after that. At 140k it started using oil, so it was sent off to the auction house.

The oil always seemed to turn black more quickly on that engine than any of the other trucks we had.

Similar story with a 2015 F150 and a 5.0 that went 23k from new to when we discovered the oil hadn't been changed. That truck is still in the fleet, running very well, with over 150k on it.

Yeah sure seems like it lately. Running NAPA syn in my truck, but currently everything else is using Magnatec. (I do have an old Buick running on Quaker State High Mileage, so I guess I can still claim the name...lol)

1990 Chevy C3500 7.4l. Milage on engine unknown (was rebuilt by last owner, but traded to a race shop with no records).
7.5 Qts. AMAZON Basics 5w30 Synthetic (as called for on the oil cap).
Wix filter.

24hrs later, changed to Castrol 10w40 Synthetic because a rod started knocking under load pulling a 1947 Plymouth on a car trailer across the desert (107 degrees ambient). Would have put 20w50 in it, but the 10w40 was the thickest the local O'Riely's had and they were the only thing open on Memorial Day. Should have been thinking about where I was going (Ft. Mohave, Az.) when I changed the oil prior to the trip. Still knocks some, but it made the 350 mile trip back home under it's own power. Guess it's engine bottom end rebuild time!

I always like to get the factory oil out after the break-in period. The plan is to do 6000km/6m intervals, which is what Hyundai specs for severe service. I'll stick to the OEM filters and synthetic 5w30.

Also, I finally got a set of ramps. Why didn't I get these earlier?!
