I've recently finished a big project restoring my first car, a 1991 Eagle Talon TSi. Sadly its not the AWD w/ stick combo, has to make due with the automatic, but it turned out great. Its got 122K on it, consumes under a quart every 1000 miles. I've always run 10w30 in this car before. Noticed the other day on the sun visor it recommends 10w30, 20w20 or 10w40. I only drive it un the summers, really doesn't leak much to speak of, maybe a drop here and there but no big deal. I've never heard of 20w20, should I stick with 10w30 or would there be any benefit to 10w40?

Personally, I'd try a HM oil. You could experiment with 10W30 vs 10W40 to see which one the engine likes better.

Isn't 20w20 essentially 20wt?

I'd might stick with the 10w30 for now but go with a HM oil and see how that works. It might take time to notice any difference.

Those were dandy little motors in those Talons.

No, 20w20 performs as a 20 grade when it's cold, but also when it's hot. Straight 20 grade performs as a 20 grade all the time.

What you talkin about Willis.....that made no sense.

I'd rock a 10w-40.
Maxlife has a good A3 oil. Used it in our Audi during the summer's.
Great price too.

Just in this for discussion...but back then i dont think there was 5w40... so 10w30 or 10w40 were the 'norm'.

How about a dual rated 5w40? Like Mobil TDT 5w40 or Chevron Delo XSP 5w40?

90 2WD stick was y first brand new car.

I ran Mobil 1 10w-30 in it from 5K to about 80K when I sold it.

I never actually changed a sump - I changed the filter at 3500 and filled it up enough to replace what dumped out (I recall plugging the hole ) - from 5K-80.

I was going on bad information but nothing ever failed and beat the SNOT out of that car.

Stick w the 30.

+1 or else M1 HM 10w-30 would be a good option with its high HTHS.

One could look at the 10w-30 HDEOs as well...
