Here are some shots after dropping the transmission pan on a 2005 Taurus with a 3.0 OHV engine. I believe this is the first time it was dropped. The magnet has some crud. The pan bottom was actually quite clean. The light conditions make the pan bottom look dirty but the cleaned up pan looked similar. On the right of shot is the cleaned up magnet. Enjoy.

I never pulled the pan off of my 2001 , but I did do yearly drain and fills. I would pop off the trans cooler line and pump it out / refill it a few quarts at a time.

It looks good. I'd do a fluid exchange once you get it back together, and you should be gtg for at least another 35K miles or more depending on driving conditions.

Get an aftermarket pan that has a drain plug, so you don't have to drop the pan again smile

I would want to drop that pan again at 50k miles to replace the filter and clean things up in that pan and magnet. Using one of those inexpensive hand pumps with the hose in the dip stick tube will pull out most of the fluid in the pan making its removal easy and drip free.

I wonder if this was the first pan drop. The presence of the shipping plug laying in the pan would indicate the pan was never dropped.

Here was the vacuum pump we used to pull out as much ATF as we could. We didn’t get it all and it was still a bit messy. Not sure where the tube hung up. This unit had a larger diameter hose that crossed over to a smaller diameter hose. You can pump it 40 times to evacuate enough air to pull in 6 quarts.
