Getting conflicting info again.

Does the GEM require programing in a 2002 Ranger, the new one is not the same part number, but is a Ford reman specified for the truck.

I believe FORscan will retrieve the programming from the bad one... maybe

It requires a PMI.

Step 1 from the FSM:

CAUTION: Prior to removal of the generic electronic module (GEM), it is necessary to upload module configuration information to the diagnostic tool. This information needs to be downloaded into the new module once installed. For additional information, refer to Section 418-01.

FORScan will definitely do it, but you will probably need an active Extended License if you don't already have one. They're free and only take a few minutes to get.

You will want to save the "as-built" data from the original GEM and then write the saved as-built file to the new GEM.

I've done at least a dozen of them, FORScan makes it pretty simple. If you run into any problems with the procedure, feel free to PM me or post back here and I can walk you through it.

Appreciate the assistance!

I was able to do it with FORScan.

It really was pretty easy.
