In the past I have seen retailers like AAP offer some promotion whereby you turn in a used battery to them an receive a rebate, prepaid debit card, etc. I have been looking around lately and have not found anyone offering anything at this time BUT there is a good chance that I have missed something.

Any ideas?

In NY they charge a core charge and give it back when you return the old battery. Its required by law to try and get people not to toss in junk.

Oreillys and AAP have always done it. They only sometimes put it in the flyers. Unless something has changed. It doesn't make sense though unless you have an old battery sitting around. Since they charge a core fee on the new ones.

Funny...A long time ago I noticed the "bring in your dead batteries for a gift card" offers had dried up.

I figured the strays had all been turned in and that the $10-$15 core charge was accomplishing getting the old batteries back.

Here, there are metal recycler that buys automotive batteries (cans, electronic PCB, etc) by weight.
Sometimes you get more than $10, sometimes less depending on the type of battery.

I wonder if any state is NOT doing that.

It seems a no brainer as lead does not belong in a landfill or being burned in an incinerator. But all 50 states? Who knows.

Just called my local Auto Zone -- they are offering a $10.00 merchandise card for each old battery you take there.
