The Castrol - look at the higher levels of approvals.

- just make sure the approvals match your car manufacturer requirements.

I notice, you are in UK.
So, oil availability may be different.

What type of minimum standard is required for the vehicle?
If both oils met the standard spec for the car, then pick one of them.

In the grand scheme of things, I don't think a particular oil will reduce the lifetime of the car.
There are a lot more other factors besides oil that will determine that.

They both match the Ford specs, I just wondered if one was a better synthetic than the other, I have both in stock just was wondering if there was a difference worth using one over the other,

Doesn't this engine require FORD M2C950-A?

Both are low viscosity for a diesel engine, I'd go with the one that is likely to have the highest HTHS viscosity between the two. Low viscosity oils tend to be less protective for cylinder walls in diesel engines, due to the high BMEP I guess. Thats what a lot of research papers show anyway.

But if you don't intend to run the engine as long as possible, one will be as good as another...

How to find HTHS vis these days? A number of Mfg's seem to be hiding their spec sheets now?
