hi everyone. I'm changing a rear axle seal in my truck today. its an open diff. when i removed the locking pin to take the c clip out i rotated the axle and both spider gears fell out of place. i cleaned everything up and re installed the spider gears. my concern is i mixed them up, they look exactly the same im just not sure if they could be different and have to go in one way.

one other question. the manual says to use non hardening thread locker for the pin bolt. can i use blue locktight instead?

thanks everyone.

They rotate around inside the carrier. Does not matter where you put them back in. There may be shims under them. Don't lose those.

Out of my pay grade. You may try a generic permethrin.

Seriously, if you just use some Red Line or Amsoil gear oil it won't matter.

I'm sorry. Had a great day at work just feeling a little giddy.

thanks. no shims just "thrust washers" and they are exactly the same thickness.

You have 2 side gears and 2 spiders, doesnt matter where they go as long at the thrust washers are there. While they are out inspect the washers for wear, surfaces should be perfectly smooth. If not, replace the spider gear set. Cant honestly say I have ever put thread locker on the lock bolt, usually just torque to spec.
