Spotted this aircraft on Monday. Sorry about the poor quality of the photo. I realized that the ubiquitous 4-engined jet airliners of my youth (DC-8s and B-707s) are long gone. The twins have taken over.

The whistling of the turbines was pretty distinctive.

Does anyone know what this aircraft would be? Just idle curiosity on my part.

Thanks all, looks like you've nailed it.

It obviously wasn't a 747, and I couldn't think of any other 4-engined Boeings or Douglasses still in service.

An A340-600 more specifically. They’re longer than a 747-400.

Whatever's on sale...

Yep, A340-600, so far my favorite airplane to fly with.

The 600 had lavatories in the lower deck if I recall correctly. Never was on one but it had to be better than the 340-300 which had four hairdryers powering the aircraft. Slow as all get out. Rode several trips on 343’s from California to SE Asia. Those were long flights.
