I noticed a few days ago that my 75 Capri had began to make pretty bad knocking sound on cold start, only for 1-2 seconds, but definitely an internal noise, like a rod knock type sound...

Today i took the oil filter off, barely 3 drops of oil came out of it, when usually it's full or nearly full.

Up until the last OCI i have always used Motorcraft filters, but my local Ford dealer didn't have them in stock back in November so i decided to put a Bosch on it.

I've done just over 1200km with it and was fine until a few days ago.

Nevertheless i bought 3 filters back in November, so i changed it and put another one on it this morning, cranked the engine over on the starter for a few seconds to fill the oil filter as i usually do, noise gone.

I will check the oil level in a few hours again and start it up and see wether or not the knock is gone.

Engine has an unknown mileage as it's not the original one to the car, i calculate around 150-180k miles, made in November 1972 and has never even had the heads off, i guess at this age and mileage some internal failure would not be that hard to believe but i've always taken good care of it, oil always regularly changed and kept full, never revved cold or anything like that, it has good oil pressure aswell.

I have seen some odd oil pressure things happen with oil filters. Changing the filter makes the problem go away. Put I could not put my finger on what was the exact issue.

If the filter was practically empty, it was defective. It should be full at all times. I have had filters bleed off so much oil that the dipstick readings on a cold engine always showed overfilled.

Silicone ADBV I'd presume ... ?

Did you cut open the old filter to see if there's any evident reason the ADBV was leaking?

mobil one filters are made by the same company as Bosch. Mann+Hummel and there have been two threads on here the show torn ADBV from those. So it wouldn't surprise me.

Well i just ordered a few genuine Motorcraft EFL90 filters, that's what the engine has always previously had on it, and i never have had any problems with them.
Will use the Bosch ones for target practice perhaps or simply to cut them open as i never have cut one open, no big loss i bought 3 for 15€

I generally have the impression of Bosch making quality products, but i won't buy another Bosch oil filter for sure.
I remember i once also put a Bosch filter on my Escort and often the top end would rattle ( hydraulic lifters ) quite badly on cold start.
I put a Motorcraft EFL600 on it the next OCi and no more rattle since then.
