Any place to buy a quart of cheap 2-cycle oil? #5423087 05/06/20 09:58 PM

I'd like to buy a cheap quart of 2-cycle oil for my leaf blower, chainsaw and other lawn equipment. Don't really care about the brand name. But it seems most stores sell the smaller bottles, which end up being expensive, or they sell the expensive brands. I did find that Menard's (I'm in Minnesota) lists on its website that it has a quart of Quaker State 2 cycle oil for air cooled engines for $4. However, after going to two of their stores, they are out of stock. Anyone else have a good source for cheap 2 stroke oil in the larger sizes?

At many farm stores you can find Mystik JT-4 2-Cycle Lawn and Garden Engine Oil.

The "W" in "TC-W3" means water-cooled thus lower temps and I'm sure people have lots of opinions but I wouldn't run it in my trimmer or chainsaw. You want something designed to lubricate at the higher temps of an air-cooled engine.

OP:
If you can't find a quart or more in a single bottle just consider buying a case of whatever oil suits your fancy. Pretty much every mfg of 2 stroke lawn equipment has one and I expect they're no better than one another. Just buy a six pack or a gross or whatever the retailer gets. You probably won't get it locally but if you really want it you can get a 5 gallon pail of Stihl synthetic oil.

Studly,

You may want to give Fleet Farm a try, as they typically have a reasonable selection of air-cooled 2-cycle oils to choose from. For example, the Mystik Sea & Snow oil is JASO FD rated and costs $4.79 a quart. While most users are likely using this oil for their PWC and/or snowmobile, the FD rating suggests it should work well for the applications you mention above.

As has been mentioned, look for JASO rated oils. Don't buy TC-W3 stuff for your OPE unless is specifies its use. Lucas is pretty cheap, the Mystik that's mentioned looks promising, motorcycle shops have quarts of JASO rated oil for $10 or $11/quart (Yamahlube 2R or 2s for example).

I agree that trying to buy high quality oils from Home Depot is expensive. You pay for convenience with those small bottles. My local mower store sells Echo Red Armor for $3 less per 16 ounce squeeze bottle than does Home De;pot so look around and see if you can give a small business owner some business.

I know we're getting a tad off of the cheap quart topic but Amsoil in quarts is only $10.10 if your local dealer will sell to you at preferred pricing (mine does) so it never hurts to look around.

Even if the little bottle is expensive per ounce, it typically makes a gallon of fuel. Which for many people will last a while for chain saw or blower.

If you only need to buy one or two of the small bottles per year is that a big deal?

probably wasted more money driving to stores than just buying whatever.

I prefer Echo red armor at home depot.. but they carry other brands cheaper.

Studly,

The Mystik Lawn & Garden oil that 65f100 mentions above is JASO FD rated and is $4.79 a quart at Fleet Farm. This oil seems like a very good fit for the applications you list above at a reasonable price. See the links below for more information.
