I use them to. I have a post where I cut one open after using it on my ford truck. No rust, media looked great. Using one now on my fifth avenue.

Good 4 U.

Take an inventory and store 'em where you can remember and reach 'em.

Don't waste prime interior real estate on 'em.

Tell us how many different "distinct types" you have and how many vehicles you anticipate servicing.

I have 9 filters which have potential to fit 7 vehicles which I'm actively maintaining.

That's good for me because I want not to keep track of a dopey barrel of filters.

Between me and my buddy we have 28 vehicles. Here we go.
Fords, 88 f-150, 75 and 76 ltd, 95 e150, 91 Taurus, 18 Taurus
Lincoln, 72 mk4, 83 mk6 4dr, 85 mk7 LSC, 87. 89 & 94 towncar.
GMC motor home with 455 oldsmobile
Mercury 89 Colony park
Chevy 85 caprice estate
Chrysler, 84 fifth avenue, 2 86 Yorker turbos, 96 town&country
Buick 85 riverea, 2001 Park Avenue ultra
Mazda 81 and 84 b2000s
Cadillac 90 and 92 deville
Dodge 91 dodge b350
Jeep 10 jeep patriot

Why keep all those filters.
If you sell or park your vehicles in your yard as decoration what do you do with them then ?

I got tired of having to go to the store and pay full retail price so I keep them on hand. O'Reilly's want $8.99 for a fl1a I got a case of 12 for $30 or $2.50 each. Thise old purolators where around a $.85. My mom owns 2 saturns so I can use those pro-tec fairly quickly. My yorker turbo also uses those.

The ones in the middle should be placed in the round file.

I agree. I don't store any more than two filters for any car. You never know how long you'll own the car. It could be totaled in the next year.

It could be totaled tomorrow! Or today!

Did I forget to mention I have 28 vehicles. They will get used in time. I dont aget nymore until they run out. Even then I can substitute some. Lots of them will interchange.

Scion: Carquest Blue 84145 - $2.25, Fram TG3600 x2 - $3.00@, Bosch D+ D3422 x2 - $5.00@, Mobil 1 M1-103 - Free, Fram TG4967 - Free
F150: Mobil 1 M1-210A - Free, Supertech ST2 - $2.88, Fram TG2 - $2.00, Fram XG10575 - $5.80
Honda/Hyundai/Kia: NAPA Gold 1334 - Free, Supertech ST9688 - $2.89, Fram TG3593a x3 - $1.75@, Fram XG3598a - Free
Santa Fe: Kia 26320-3CAA0 x2 - $7.48@

19 filters for a total of $43.35, retail would have been ~$150

I do have way more filters for the Scion than I need, about 7 years worth. It was a shared filter size with my mother in laws vehicle, but she sold it.
One of the Bosch filters I am not going to use, it has louvers in the center tube that are not very opened up.

The filters for the F150, well I service 2 F150's, so I am fine with 4 of them.

The 3593/9688 size filters fit 3 vehicles I service, so having 6 is not a lot (but in the future will probably just stick with the ST9688).

The filters for the Santa Fe I got online in a 4 pack, about $3 cheaper per filter that way.
