Hi,
This is the second oil change on a 2019 titan xd with the Cummins isv.5.0. Initial oil change was at 5k before delivery, I than changed oil at 10k and pulled a sample. Oil in crank case is delvac 10w30. Thoughts? Seems like the 10w30 is thinning out pretty good, should I go up to 5w40. Factory recommendations are 10w30 year round and 5w50 cold up to 68 farenheit

Yes, the KV100 has decreased so that it is 10% below the bottom of 30-grade. 5w40 sounds reasonable to me.

Would a different brand 10w30 hold up better? Thinking rotella 10w30

why not use a CK 15w40, you do live in a warm climate

I wish I could unfortunately it's not a recommended viscosity by either Cummins or Nissan.

What was the starting viscosity for that delvac? That's a pile of shear for a hdeo.

A different application but I am using petrocan duron 10w30 in my ISB6.7 for the full 24,000km index. It starts at 12cSt and ended at 11.47. That was with just under 3% fuel.

I would find another 10w30 if you want to go that route.

+1 I'd try 15W40 due to your climate as well.

There's a guy on here running a Ram Ecodiesel V-6 with 15W40 Mystik Synblend and has good UOA's.

But since it is a recommendation as you say and not a requirement then you are free to use what you wish.

I find this strange considering a 5w40 is ok, at operating temperatures there would be no difference in viscosity ???

The only difference between 15w40 and 5w40 is some VII added to the oil. The operating viscosity at 100c will be the same.

Those cheapo 15w40 oils should be pretty shear stable as well.

I’d get a thicker oil in there. A solid 20-weight doesn’t belong in a diesel.

‘Some’ of that Al is bearing wear from a top thin oil.

I worked for Chrysler for a while, 3.0 Ecodeisels speced 10w-30...want them to last? Use 15w-40.

Different engine, but same idea.
