Lord Willing, I'm Gonna Buy a Tundra

they are not picky on oil.

I would buy toyota filters from amazon or ebay in a 5 or 10 pack for ~$5 - $6 each. make sure you buy from a car dealership with a store front on those pages and not individuals as there are counterfeiters out there.

may will offer a low per filter price but the shipping will bring it up. that is why larger orderes help spread that cost.

the engine will also be fine with a Fram or supertech alternate if you need one local, doesnt reslly matter with this engine.

oil is the same way. plenty of good deals out there. supertech 12 qt box (synthetic). Havoline, Pennziol has $10/jug rebates going on now, M1 may also have them.

On our 1st gen 2001 Tundra, I use the larger filter and any 5w30 synthetic.
Currently Valvoline High Mileage.

I think the larger filters are PH8a, M1 301, etc.
Perhaps your Tundra uses the cartridge filters?

Good luck.

Great choice.

Cartridge filter on this engine.

Toyota cartridge filter is $5-6 at my dealer and they always throw in a new drain plug gasket, gratis. That's the best bet. Low price, good quality.

The engine isn't picky on oil. Use whatever synthetic you like. Toyota's own works well. I've had great UOA with the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W30 (I know, not the recommended viscosity, unless it sees severe use - which it doesn't, really).

Depending on what year you get, you may have the composite/plastic filter housing. You can change that out for the aluminum housing on other engines. You want the Genuine Toyota 15620-31060 Oil Filter Cap Assembly. It's about $22. You'll have to change the center barrel in that part to the longer one from your composite housing, but that's easily done. I just felt better about the aluminum housing.

You'll also want to get a Toyota filter housing wrench. I got the MotivX one, it's about $25 and fits the cartridge housing tightly, so there's no chance of slipping or damage to the housing.

Congrats on a nice reliable truck. I think the K&N synthetic filters from Walmart are a great deal. I order my drain plug crush washers in bulk from amazon" toyota genuine".
As for oil any ILSAC synthetic brand will work fine, I would just uses, deals, packaging convenience and availability guide you, I like a Havoline6 quart boxes, I also liked the rotella gas truck they paid me to take. Wouldn't have any problem running super tech/Kirkland/Amazon Basics either,

If I am not mistaken, the newer Tundra uses the longer cartridge filter.
There is not much choices on the cartridge filter.
The aftermarket is actually more expensive than the OEM.

What you may want to do is to check if the oil filter canister attach to the truck is the plastic or metal.
If it is plastic, you may want to buy the metal version and replace it the next time you change the oil.
The metal is much better and easier to install for some reason based on my experience.

OEM filter and any oil from the major oil companies that meets the specs .

My son did some research, ended up targeting a 2013 Tundra. We found one decent shape 79k miles. The frame was very good for the Midwest(thanks previous owner).

Took the bed off the other day, frame & box rust touch up & then undercoat.

If you have a dealer close by, check to see if they have an online ordering option to get an internet discount. Filters are $4 + tax when I do it.

I use M1 0w40 FS in my 4.7. I use the Mobil discounts, get two jugs basically for the price of one, change my own oil for around $18-19. I did a UOA after 18 months/5k miles and had a spectacular report.

Oil, pick your synthetic, spec is 0w-20, with permission to temporarily run 5w-20, wide speculation that that is the CAFE talking. I did not follow that spec. 5w-30 seams to be common in the south and seams to turn in just fine UOA's, leave the owners manual recommendations at your own risk.

If you want to spend way too much money on an oil change for a 5.7L like I did I have the recipe for you:
https://www.amazon.com/Toyota-Genuine-04152-YZZA4-Replaceable-Element/dp/B007OW6LSC

alternately you can order the TRD version of the cartridge filter
https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Toyota-Parts-PTR43-00081-Filter/dp/B00965DFQ6

The stock oil filter cap is plastic, here is the alternative aluminum housing, as said above you have to swap over the longer center tube from your stock plastic housing. easy to do, you just have to bend a few Sheetmetal tabs and twist.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008BHP68A

the filters each include a plastic nipple to drain the oil filter housing before opening but if you want a more user friendly and less likely to make a mess:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F42KVP9
the outer portion threads all the way in and seals and then the inner stem threads in further to open the filter housing drain valve.

housing socket, there are a lot of them, I read a lot of reviews and went with a steel socket, some report the aluminum ones getting stuck on the housing as it flexes.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B8O0BFU

Not enough oil bling? tired of removing and burning you fingers and fishing plugs from your drain pan?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003UT822G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And the lock, I ordered one and they sent 2
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011SDCZAK

and the drain hose for the fumoto valve
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HE5DUQ

bonus: this spark plug socket fits the 5.7 perfectly according to reviews, mine gets here today.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014ZVSVK

and if you have a 4x4 Tundara you need a 10mm hex drive socket for the front diff , my 10mm x 3/8" drive socket twisted trying to remove the diff drain plug and almost broke, so I ordered a 1/2" drive version with full shank, if you are getting a 2 wheel drive your rear diff gear oil plugs will be a standard 24MM socket I think. my transfer case was 24MM but it changes based on year, Sequoia 4x4 take 10mm Allen front and rear, it has independent rear to the tundra trucks solid axle rear, front diffs are the same on both as far as I know.
