Changed the plugs in my 2010 jeep today and noticed one of the plugs was covered in oil and soot. The plug wasnt even finger tight, which was very odd. Can the fact that it was so loose be the reason for all the oil or am i looking into replacing the valve cover gasket? The second plug in this cylinder was also loose and "dirty" but not nearly as bad. Thanks for all the help.

The valve cover gasket has nothing to do with oil on the spark plugs. Maybe bad valve stem seals or rings though.

It would be if we're talking about the terminal side of the plugs.

BigD, can't answer your guestion, but I would check it often for tightness, and pull plug at 3000 miles and see it is fouled with oil.
