Involved vessels::

GC-23 Naiguat
á, a 272 ft, 1,720 t littoral patrol boat of the Venezuelan navy, built by Navantia in Spain in 2008. This was one of three ships of the same class. A fourth, the Comandante Eterno Hugo Chávez was cancelled.

RCGS Resolute, a 409 ft, 8,445 t five-star ice-strengthened expedition cruise ship, built by Rauma in Finland in 1990. Currently owned by Hapag-Lloyd.

The navy ship, after first firing upon the cruise ship, rammed the cruise ship and promptly sank. Venezuela lost one third of its Guaicamacuto class patrol ship fleet. The German-owned cruise ship suffered a small scratch.

Now I've never been in the navy or worked on a cruise ship, but the article said that the cruise ship stayed in the vicinity until it was clear that its help was not needed to rescue survivors from the naval vessel that rammed it. Man if I was the captain of that cruise ship, I'm not sure I would have stuck around. If I felt magnanimous I might have fired up a flare on their behalf....

Although I suppose that's SOP in international waters....
