Oil Filter Removal

This is neat. I'm thinking an old bike chain would work well. Edit: The image was a GIF video. It shows the chain being placed inside the wrench. The wrench then works as
a lever, tightening the chain around the filter for removal. Sorry the GIF did not work.

Nice! I have a vice grip that is similar to this, works very well for stuck oil filters or pipes.

I have filter plyers for that open applications. the enclosed type get a cup wrench or a strap wrench with ratchet

my 2.0T engine in the jeep is surrounded closely 75% of the circumference so you can only use a cup or band.. even the chain would be too big.. no clearance.
 
I wonder how this would work on a plastic cartridge oil filter lid that's stuck and rounded, particularly the Toyota ones!
 
I've had a dedicated chain wrench for about 20 years, the kind with the small hook the chain cams into. Probably it saved the day once and I used it to hold a pipe while cutting a few times. Otherwise, mehhhh, not really very useful at l
