Hi,
What is the best oil change interval for small diesel engines. (1300ccm) (Capacity 3.2L). Engine oil is always 100% synthetic 5w40. Car travells about 15k kilometers per year. Mostly city driving.

If the majority of your travel is AT temperature (e.g., constantly moving, highway, etc.) then I'd go yearly.

It depends on the car and it’s tech. as much as anything, but;
If your city driving is mostly short journeys then the oil might not get up to full temp so a shorter interval of 10k KM could be beneficial. If you drive for long enough to get the oil properly hot then 20k KM is reasonable.

You may want to have it tested to be sure its holding up for that interval, its probably fine though.

Since it's city with small oil capacity, I'd change it every 5k Kilometers and never have to worry.
Or you could go a little longer and change every 6 months. Easier to keep up with.

Which 100% synthetic oil are you using?

So far I have been using Selenia WR 5W40.
On the next oil change I am gonna switch on Shell helix ultra 5w40( since it is GTL based).

Manufacture says change your oil every 30k kilometers. Nonsense. Iam chaning it every 8k-10k max.

If you are changing it every 8-10k kilometers you can use whatever is cheapest that meets the manufacturers specification. The "100% synthetic oil' you have been using is a good oil and could coceivably deliver much longer change intervals but you will need to monitor/test it.

Hi
For city driving I would change it every 6 months. I suppose only an analysis will help but oil is relatively cheap. 3.2 litre you say? Is it a Ford Ranger?

Is a C3 oil a better choice for a modern turbo diesel engine like this? Something like a MB229.51?

Tikka.

It is Fiat Grande Punto 1.3 MJD, year 2007. I deleted DPF, iam using full SAPS oils for, never had problems with it 182k kilometers. For the next oil change I bought Shell helix ultra diesel 5w40 A3/B4 , API CF.
