It is. Whoever owned it smoked, had tons of kids toys, and drank gallons of coffee. I shampooed and used the ozone treatment early, no more smoke odor amazingly.

I know this isn't helping you sell the Jeep but I'm just trying to provide an explanation why people may be turned off. If the previous owner smoked in the car it's an immediate pass for me. It may be scent free, but most people won't take the time to find out.

Is it really 100% cigarette smell free?

Cigarette smoke tends to permeate all interior materials, making it nearly impossible to get rid of. For a lot of people who don't smoke, even the slightest indication of prior cigarette use will be an automatic pass.

Yes it is almost impossible for smoke penetrated materials to be entirely scent free no matter how much you treat them ozone or not.
I also agree if the vehicle, home or whatever has ever been smoked in it's an immediate pass for me too.

Yeah, I think the difference is between smokers and non smokers. I can instantly tell when people are smokers and the smokers always try to play it off or pretend that they don't smell it. Plus even if you do a deep clean of the seatbelts all pulled out, there's still places like the air vents where it won't come out and you'll smell it once the blowers kick in.

Now we're nitpicking about the potential of some smoke smell in a 10yr old, 150K mile ~$3000 undesirable Jeep product?

Lawd you guys are an expensive date.

OP was wondering why the people who saw the car just walked away without even making an offer. There could be many different reasons for it. We are just throwing out ideas, based on info he provided.

For me personally, any kind of cigarette smoke would be a deal breaker, even at $3K. Plenty of other used vehicles out there without that issue.

I agree with others, it is priced too high for what it is.
A Liberty is not a sought after vehicle, especially a 10 year old one with 150,000 miles and some minor damage.
If you wait a week or so till the gov't bailout money comes out and drop the price to $3,400 (which is what most family of 4 will get), and take $3,000 you will be rid of it.

I also agree with the pics, I want an under hood pic and pic of under the engine/transmission area.
If it is a little dirty, that is fine. If it is a soaking mess, it is a probable pass. If it is spotless, it means it used to be a mess and was cleaned up, so another pass.

The smoker part also hurts the sale-ability of it. Yes doing the ozone treatment properly can get rid of the smell temporarily and greatly reduce it overall, but it will always be there, especially on a hot humid day, that smoke smell gets pulled out on those days.

There's the story where some guy offered a homeless guy a winter jacket. The homeless guy turned it down and said it wasn't his color.

Just goes to show you that people can be picky at all stages.

Even when it's only 3-4k, people still have choices.

I do home sales. Every seller always seems to think their house is nicer than the one that just sold so it should be worth more. Doesn't work that way.

Yup, I tried twice. Both vehicles were cheap and required minor repairs.
Broke even on one, lost $100 on another (not counting my time for repairs). That was enough for me.

Gotta wonder where people get this misconception

Selling cars sucks, wastes a huge amount of time and you get to deal with every crackhead and charity case.

I rather have teeth pulled than go through the process.

It's increasingly been a buyer's market with so many quality used vehicles on the market. (I don't mean NOW now with all the virus stuff and house arrest going on, I mean the past year or two.) Assuming a buyer knows how to shop for used vehicles, the only time they will have a problem is if they need a very particular model/configuration and it is very popular, because those tend to get snatched up quickly... and that is an instance where sellers will make money, if they are selling a popular model. But otherwise, sellers are generally not getting whatever they think their vehicle is worth.

AKA Don't expect to get the "fair" blue book value, wholesale if your lucky

Yup. Wife and I "won" some apple pies at a casino in Vegas a couple years ago around Thanksgiving. We seen the homeless occasionally rummaging through the garbage cans on the street. We tried to give the pies away to the local homeless folks but didn't have much luck. One guy finally said he'd take one. We offered him both pies and said he could share with his friends but he turned us down. These weren't the panhandling fakers. These were the real homeless with the sunken eyes and desperate looks. Oh, well. All you can do is try.

Funny, homeless guy just asked me for a burger so I got him one, then it turned into a cheeseburger without onions.
