What's with black interior?

I've asked this question tons of time and even here at Bob's.
The most consistent answer that I get(mostly from dealerships) is that more people like black interiors.

I agree that black doesn't show the dirt as much as lighter colors but c'mon people, we're BITOG.

We keep our cars cleaner than most. And black is just plain )))HOT((( in the summer & warmer states.

I prefer a lighter interior colors. Mostly beige/tan & cocoa/mocha combo but, depending on the paint choice, a light(er) to medium gray comb maybe with some black such as the steering wheel and top of dash & doors.

One thing I dislike is reflected light and glare on the windshield. I would prefer an all black interior to cut down on glare.
At the very least, I would like a flat black dashboard/glare shield.

My Brother just outside of LA, ordered a Honda CRV for his wife with white pearl outside and White leather(?) inside.

I don't know how he found that, never seen anything like it up here in the northeast.

Remember the days when you ORDERED a new car and you got to pick everything.

I was with my dad when he ordered a split bumper Camaro RS with 350SBC,, 4 speed, and F41 in Silver with red interior.
I think that was from Hallissy Chevrolet on the Tewksbury-Lowell MA line.

Then the order got canceled due to a Strike and plant shutdown. He Never got that beast!

My Nissan Frontier has a tan interior, and my 65 mustang has a red interior, and my newly acquired 98 mustang has a grey interior, which looks great in the lazer red car. My 64 yellow Ranchero does have black seats, but the rest is yellow. I really miss the old days when you could order a car with either a matching or contrasting interior. I know that is to complicated for the manufactures now days, but it sure made for some nice looking cars. I wonder if black would be the most popular color if other colors were available besides black tan or grey?

Interesting. All the CX5s I've seen have a ivory headliner and pillar covers.

black is the same color as bike grease, so that's an easy one for me. I just haven't seen many 10 year old cars with tan carpets that looks good--same with any cloth seats. The upper part of the dash has to be black for me as well, due to reflections.

One thing I can get behind is the black carpet with lighter color door inserts and seats--as long as the seats are leather or fake leather. This looks good to me:

You still can do that with some makes.

Tome? Tomb?

I have the black leather interior in my black F150 lariat 4x4 Super Crew, in South Florida!!

Interestingly, because it has very effective window tint, the Black truck's interior generally remains cooler than my similar White F150 with no window tint and tan interior. Such as when shopping.

However, the Black truck eventually gets hotter when left outside all day.

I have both a tan and a black interior car. When I clean them, the black interior is far harder to clean, as you can see every speck of dust or dirt in it.

From what I can tell car external colors and interior colors are a cyclical thing. Red interiors are starting to become popular especially in Toyota/Lexus vehicles. I've seen a fair share of 80's vehicles with blue interiors.

You can still factory order, though I don't believe the options are as extensive now. QP did that with his SRT Charger IIRC and I did it with my 2020 SRT Grand Cherokee.

That reminds me of when the fox body Mustangs could be ordered with that hideous porno red interior

You can order red in some FCA products too, though personally I'm not a fan of it. I had it in my 2014 SRT and greatly preferred the deep tan I had in my 2016 GC and the black I have in my current one. The Trackhawk allows you to get a split grey/black interior as well.

I owned a car with this interior, and it was just as bad as you could imagine.

My kids had a couple of those (bought from someone who assembled parts from wrecked Camrys in his home garage before the zoning lords stopped him.) Frankly I think the dash looks pretty good for the time and I even like the color. Reminds me of how far ahead both Toyota and Honda were ahead of the crowd three decades ago. Not any more.

Right? I hated that light gray base cloth interior in my 2016 Forester. I'd pick my kids up from practice and a few drips from a water bottle, etc, would leave horrible water stains.

I'm thinking it's more about the type of material rather than the color that matters more.

I hate black interiors; one of the reasons I kept my Mazda6 this long because its beige interior color
