I'm looking at this Ford coolant brochure: https://parts.ford.com/content/dam/ford-parts/resources/motorcraftpdf/Coolants_Brochure.pdf

For 1999-01 and 2002 models prior to 7/15/2002 it calls for green coolant, for models after that date, yellow coolant. Is this chart for just topping up? Any reason I can't switch to the more advanced yellow coolant when I do a complete flush? I don't see any difference in the cooling systems between those two dates.

When topping off, use whatever is in the system, don't mix types. That chart shows the factory fill. If you completely flush the system, you could change from green to yellow.

the chart is basically just what it came with from the factory. green coolant is the conventional shorter-life coolant, yellow is g-05.

g-05 is a good coolant. change away to the g-05 after a flush. I did.

I seem to remember those called for green but if you do a "complete flush" you can switch to Gold.

7-15-02 is when Ford started filling with G-05. When we do a major repair with cooling system completely drained on an older car we go back in with Gold. If not, stay with green

By that logic, people with 60's muscle cars should be using obsolete SC grade motor oils when current modern SN is superior. Heck, you would be using 3 generations old SJ grade in your old Lex.
