Seems like i may have a significant automatic transmission problem on the 05 Accord 2.4. While leaving a stop sign the electrics went crazy, gauges bouncing around wipers came on and car hesitated and the transmission made a buzzing grinding to a halt sound. Pulled over and shut it down and put it in park. The engine starts right up but when put in gear the gauges act strange when put in gear and it makes a buzzing grind when putting it in park. Also the car rolls when in park. What is a good place to order a remanufactured transmission?

Transmissions don't normally have Park problems......Make sure you didn't break a Drive Axle, Or that an Axle didn't come loose or unsplined.

Thanks for the responses. I too wondered about an electrical problem but the buzzing grinding noise had me wondering if it was a secondary shaft bearing issue. The vehicle had a recall for it performed this summer but has never had any problems before and has only 75k mi. I tried to look at the axles but it was dark and the street was busy, but they both appeared in place with nothing hanging underneath.

It's a shame because the car is in great shape and has always been well maintained by me. I think it's worth putting a transmission in it, but as it is now it's value is very low.

Get it checked out by a professional, Don't just assume the transmission needs replaced.

Does the speedometer go up when you place it in drive, Or do all the gauges really go nuts?

The "Car rolls in Park" has me thinking a Mechanical Issue instead of an Electrical issue.

car-part.com can be useful in locating parts from wreckers.

But seriously K24 5AT failures are pretty uncommon especially at 75k mi. I'd get it diagnosed properly.

I'll add if he goes this route, get a tranny from a wreck in the junkyard. My thinking is that car had a working transmission when it got hit. You never really know what the reason for an unblemished car for being in the boneyard.

This.

Don't assume it's the transmission.

I wasn't driving when it happened, but I did start it up and try to move the vehicle. I think I put it in drive and the tach and spedo were hovering high, like 1k and 5-10 mph on a warm stationary vehicle. I didn't move it and went to put it in park and I think that's when it made the buzzing grinding noise. The vehicle was towed to a nearby independent shop. If it needs a new transmission I don't know if I will have them do it or attempt it myself at home. I'm wondering if i should take it to the dealer?

I would have a good transmission shop check it out. I would not consider a reman transmission until its declared a dead transmission by an expert.

That sounds exactly like a broken cv shaft. If an axle is broken it would allow that side's output to spin because of the open differential, and the car would not move. With the diff spinning at 5 to 10 mph the parking pawl would clash and rattle until the rotating assembly comes to a stop.

There is no such thing as a CV shaft. this vehicle uses a driveshaft with a rzeppa joint on each end.

I assume this is the result of the difference in your English and ours.

This particular shaft does not have a Rzeppa on each end. It has a Rzeppa on the wheel end and a tripod on the transmission or intermediate shaft connection.

Thanks everyone for the info, it is rather encouraging. Could a broken axle allow the vehicle to roll in park if only one side is broken?

Yes, because of the open differential.

If you are in the salt belt, it is quite common for corrosion underneath the rubber dynamic dampener to compromise the shaft. If there is a rubber donut in the center of the shaft it is entirely possible it is compromised there. I hope this is what they find. I think it is unlikely the trans is bad.

Now I remember why I come here. Your info is very helpful. The shop called...broken axle. It's a daily driven Midwest vehicle but has almost zero rust so I'm surprised the axle could rust. They recommend replacing both, normally I would only do the broken one but after this, both will probably be done. I'll post up if the shop does it or I do.

Excellent news!

Welcome to my world!
I have the exact same powertrain, but in a CR-V. I've had the crazy electrical issues on and off since the trans started acting up. No ground issues, those were gone through by an electrical specialist at an indy mechanic. 282k. It still moves under it's own power but it's getting harder and harder. The AT is taking up a lot of engine/power resources these days.

Anyone have a 4Runner they want to sell me? I'm in the market and have $$$ to spend (soon).
