The answers you get here will be 99% from people who never owned one and are regurgitating internet gossip to stay away from any BMW Jaguar Mercedes Volvo euro luxury car. Post the question in a Jaguar forum where actual owners can school you.

I was dissuaded by a filthy rich co-worker who owned a drop dead gorgeous Jag.
"You don't want that car..."

And despite the Ford-Volvo linkages with Jaguar-Land Rover when that XF was penned and engineered, it shares nothing with a common Ford. This one might be new enough to use the Tata-era Ingenium engine series.

Ask on a specialist forum - but like on any European car, the electrical/electronic bits are prone to acting up.

/edit - the car in question was designed during the Ford era and based on the same platform as the Lincoln LS/retro T-Bird and S-Type. I found this: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xf-xfr-x250-44/xf-reliability-maintenance-costs-108321/page2/ and more stuff here:

Not just European, but BRITISH. Nothing about those cars screams "longevity". That being said, I have exactly one customer that own an XF V8. It's got about 130k on it, and it isn't exactly "well maintained". Think... gangster rich.

Anyway, it's help up surprisingly well. No major electronic issues, everything inside works, and he hasn't had much issue with the engine. There's been a few suspension bushing issues, but that's it.

That's my incredibly small sample size, if it helps.

Ya, I'm sure that the thousands of jaguar horror stories are all fairy tails, Jaguar has the worst and most stories of any car manufacturer on the market. These just are not snippets.....between the premature failures and all pretty much same components. Hmmmm I wonder why such a premium car has the absolute worst depreciation on the market. There is a reason why a 70k car can be had for 20k 4 years later, and or right around warranty is up. Yes do what this guy said and do yourself a favour and cruise the jag fourms, unlike he didn't do before posting this comment.

Where he will find people talking about cooling system and resulting engine failure problems with that year/model and engine. That's the #1 concern with them, is the cooling system and engine damage that rapidly occurs as a result.

Really...Jaguar is not where I would look for a reliable vehicle that will be headache free.

Yea, just like the thousands of Toyota horror stories of engines sludging up, GM 3.6L engine timing chain problems, Cadillac Northstar head gasket failures, Ford transmission problems, etc. The main reason they and other luxury euro brands get a bad rap is second and subsequent owners buy them for an image car and can't afford to or neglect maintenance. I've had plenty of Jags and none had significant problems, even a 200,000 mile XJ6 back when people thought they were really bad.

Probably not the car for me. I can't imagine finding any parts in a junkyard, either.

Ya because I need to own a jag to know about the absolute junk they produced, I guess the fact they are the worst depreciation cars known to man is because of their excellent reliability, and everyone who wants to offload them the second their K warranty limit people want to ditch them ASAP. I guess you are the only one with knowledge about every car manufacturer and the rest of us are all idiots, who make these comments because I just want to stir the pot. And of course, the only jag owner who magically got the only perfectly most reliable built jag happens to be in here lmao. It's amazing the lengths people will say or blatantly lie, because they can't suck it up and admit that they own a car produced by a company who the rest of the world knows except the owners of said car are and have been notoriously unreliable and expensive to maintain. Between them and Range Rover, the absolute worst for what you pay in terms of reliability, depreciation and cost of ownership. My god especially a mid 70's to late 80's....they would start to rust or electrical connectors would disintegrate if it knew rain was in the forecast yet still in the garage. Thought they cleaned up their act around 08-10-11 with some of the beauties they rolled out, nope. Nothing but nightmares. Reason why I can get a 100g jag 4 years later for 27-30k? Must be that great reliability!!
