I have a bunch of small air cool engines and don't care to flip them to change the oil. What is the choice of the users here
for a hand pump to extract oil?

I use the orange one from HF. It does a great job for several uses and the starts to not work as well. That's not a big deal since they are inexpensive. Similar models are sold a WM and auto parts stores but cost a good bit more.

I have also used the one above, but repackaged for sale from Wally's.
At my shade tree mechanic level of useage, it's been flawless for the several years I've owned it.
I'd guess I pull it off the shelf about 3 times a year, give or take.

If I had to buy another one, I'd get the exact same thing again.

This one is perfect, but a little more costly. Got it at Walmart for about $30.00. Nice long, small diameter suction hose. Plus all openings can be closed tightly and used to transport the oil to your local recycling facility. Works great!

We've got a couple of these in the workshop, they just don't seem to break

One is 10 years old!

Search Trac brand. I've got a small ~1gal model that's awesome for OPE oil sumps and fuel tanks.

I have 2 of those . One for ATF . And one that has not been used , yet .

I also have 2 of the cheap Walmart " turkey basters " . One for brake fluid and one for power steering fluid .

I have this one:

Works great for pulling oil out of dipstick tubes on both cars and mowers. I've used the orange fluid pumps from harbor freight and they work okay, but seem to cause a mess at times.

I have the Harbor Freight pump, and am considering trying it the next time I change oil in my car. The dipstick tubing supplied with the pump is so thin I suspect it would be very slow, and is so flexible it would likely curl up within the oil pan instead of reaching all the way down to the bottom. Question: What's a more suitable type of hose that's easy to find? The dipstick tube of this car is about 7 mm inside diameter, and has a couple of smooth bends, so a rigid pipe wouldn't work. It needs to be flexible, yet stiff enough to go straight down to the bottom once it gets beyond the curves in the dipstick tube. Lowes has ¼" OD vinyl tubing that might work, but it tends to curl, too. I don't know whether it can tolerate warm oil.

I have both of these units. The larger one works really well and originally I only picked up the small one because it was on sale for $10. Used it primarily for power steering fluid or brake reservoirs, but it holds over a liter and will do all my small engine oil changes as well.
Great little product and very inexpensive.

I may go with the Briggs & Stratton 4 liter size set up. I like the idea that the pump is screwed to the container.
