There seems to be several global moderators now who have powers. Is this new? So what we have here is a site of volunteer commentators, like me here, who by our clicks and time spent fund a business?

It has been this way for years.
Nothing has changed.
Nothing is new.
You use this site for free.

You are the product that is sold to advertisers.
Remember, you can always start your own motor oil site.

I'd say that if you are really all that displeased with things and how they are arranged you can always cease participation. The best way to remain here and register your displeasure is through contacting the moderators directly rather than making a public post.

Not being mean or snarky. This site however is the most free of obvious profiteering I have ever seen. Some sites are so full of popups and side ads that it's genuinely impossible to tolerate.

Last I checked, Wayne posted the stats at 60,000+ members and threads going back to at least before 2002.

With keeping viruses, DOS, spam and other "goodies" at bay and keeping the servers up and upgrading the software about every 3-4 years, it is no small matter before you also keep the site civilized and the posts clean.

The only thing new (OP) are seeing is couple admin also posting when they action on somebody. Plenty of active admins that ave not posted in years.

In the end, the site is still a family site: Helen/Owner posted some years ago about a 11 year old kid wanting to learn about oils and engines.

You don't like it here, plenty of websites for all taste.

I pause myself couple times because life/chill out.

Agreed and why I stopped visiting another car website which is how I found out about this one. Plus the mods do a lot of work we don't know about like keeping the spam away. That was the biggest job when I was on the Accord site.

This one of the best sites I have used in eons. It is civilized and I learn a lot. There is refreshingly very little advertising here too.

I very much appreciate BITOG and its users.

This is definitely the best site on the planet. Lots of information, people from all over the world, different cultures, peresonalities, beliefs, opinions, etc, make it lots of fun! The format is excellent. Absolutely zero spam and adware. It feels like we're one big family.

Spend some time on another site and you'll really learn to appreciate it here. Like another poster said, some sites are so full of spam they'll freeze your computer.

There are several moderators. That is not new.

This isn't really a business. It makes little money. It forgoes ad revenue to keep the site cleaner and more friendly. If the owners wanted to make money, there would be pop-ups everywhere, like every other car forum to which I belong.

You clicks, your comments, your time spent, are not marketable nor monetized. Franky, this is unusual in forums and websites.

The only way anyone funds this site is by making a cash donation.

Keeping the site open requires cash, which comes from members and sponsors. That cash goes to server hosting, software upgrades, and the basics of having a site. Our administrator puts in countless hours every week keeping the site running, maintaining the database and all that stuff that is, frankly, beyond me.

For free.

The moderators are all volunteers who donate their time.

So, if you enjoy the site, and it's freedom from commercialism and ads, you should be grateful for the sponsors, who donate money, the members who donate cash, and the moderators who donate time.

I enjoy the site. I appreciate it for what it is and how it is run. I donate both time and money. I have done so since joining.

Please consider joining me in supporting BITOG with cash, because, despite your assertion, your posts themselves, and your time spent here, don't actually support the site.

You are able to spend time here because others are donating time and money.

I've had my fair share of posts and/or threads deleted (usually for good cause

) but despite that, this is (for a number of reasons) still the best all around auto forum out there.

Yes, and surprisingly in the past year mods have been a little more willing to be less restrictive on things as long as the posts are civil among all.
I've had some success getting a couple of locked threads opened up again by stating my case and asking on PM.

I'd like to thank those mods for being interested in keeping good, but maybe a little challenging threads open.

I've learned an enormous amount from this site.

I've saved a lot money and spent less time by maintaining my cars more efficiently.

Occasionally I have contacted some of the most knowledgeable on this site and they have given me excellent advice.

The White Papers are a treasure.

Well said Astro!

I hope everyone here appreciates the amount of time and effort it takes to keep this site running smoothly and cleanly. I call it my second full time job and it pretty much is. However, between all the mods, they put in much more time than I do. Collectively, I would say it's like having three of four people working and watching full time on BITOG.

I appreciate what the mods do to make BITOG a great and clean site.

I agree 100% ^^^^^^^^^^

This forum uses an ad. Only a single one that I've seen, admittedly. I also see references to googlesyndication.com, googletagmanager.com, and googletagservices.com. I'm not sure about the last two but there's some monetary aspect to Google Syndication. I'd be very, very surprised if this site survives on donations alone.

What ad are you seeing?

Pennzoil sponsors BITOG. If it's their ad, then that makes sense.

I don't see any ads when I log on, so it may well be your browser...I'm not tech savvy enough to know.

But honestly, you should be very, very surprised.

The BITOG revenue comes from sponsors and donors.
