I'm having a hard time finding a new hydraulic filter for my log splitter. Original part number is PMJ22G-52 for a Champion brand log splitter. I'm finding inconsistent answers on what replacements are available. Does anyone have an idea of how to find cross references for this filter? The original filter is just a black unmarked can.

The model number of your particular log splitter would be helpful. Do you know the model number or have the operators manual? Call Champion at their toll free number. 1-877-338-0999

Good eye! I was reading page 25 of the 27 ton model manual, which lists the "auto filter" part number, and blew right past the page that had replacement filters. Thank you!

Something weird about the filters the manual lists, PH9342 and Wix 51361. These do not show up on the cross reference page for each other. They have the same 3/4"-16 thread. One kind of looks like an engine oil filter, and the other either a hydraulic or engine oil filter. I'm not sure it matters that much for this application, but I think hydraulic filters usually have a finer micron rating. The Fram has a bypass valve, where I don't see one on the Wix.

Xref sites aren't always all inclusive for all filters in listing, thus not guaranteed 100% complete. Otoh, the OM is an authoritative source, or should be. Want to compare the filters, find the dimensional specs including sealing gasket for each on thier respective manufacture sites and see if they are the same or very close. That's one way confirm xref. Doing that appears the Wix just slightly wider can OD, but sealing gasket dimensions very close. 'Seems' they are interchangeable.

Weird that it lists the Fram PH9342, but the Wix 51361 and K&N HP-2008 cross over to a PH3682 on Fram's site, but the 9342 and HP-2008 both cross over to the 51361 on Wix's site.

The 51361 shows a bypass pressure of 16 PSI on the Wix site. The PH9342 shows a 30 psi bypass, but the PH3682 does not have a bypass.

If it were mine, I would just put a XG3682 filter on there and be done with it. If the motor is clean, you probably would not need to change the filter for over a decade.

I cannot assist you with any real information. But, I think it is important to spend due diligence to get the correct filter. I was taught that hydraulic/hydrostatic systems are very sensitive to dirt and proper flow (not too restrictive filter). On a Kubota I maintained, the OEM hydraulic filter was a depth media type that cost $26. The WIX cross reference was a $7 single paper layer media filter that just didn't seem right for the application.

There's no harm contacting Champion and having them explain the filtering specs. of the OEM filter. I did that with my Exmark mower when there were discrepancies in summer vs. winter hydraulic filters.

Good luck with your quest.

Not a bad idea to contact Champion Power Equipment to confirm the information written in the OM is accurate and if they have a preference. In my experience, the manufacturer rep will just repeat what is in the OM, little more. And avoiding confusion, the log splitter is Champion PE. Otoh, that doesn't mean the filter is a Champion Labs US made oil filter. I suspect, two different entities.

As for filter efficiency, Wix beta shows the OM listed 51361 to be 95%@20um, not too shabby.
