Is 5W30 fine for a 2.5L duratec v6 it is from 2001.


2001 Mercury Cougar base 2.5l CD4E automatic.

Yes, 5W-30 oil in that car in Kentucky will be perfectly fine.

Thank you the lack of a owners manual with this car and a blank oil cap left me wondering appreciate the help.

Ford used to list the recommended oil grade on the emissions sticker in the engine compartment. Yes, 5w-30 would be Ford's recommendation in 2001.

You ca use 5w-20, too; that was the spec in 2002. Same engine, same car.

In the UK they specify WSS-M2C913B which is a 5w30 based on ACEA A1/B1.

I drive my V6 hard so it gets something a little thicker.

Nice engine! Had one in a Contour with a stick. 1996 IIRC

The emission detuning was less aggressive back with my motor.

Test drove a BMW318ti , It was junk compared to the Contour drivetrain.
Not very good steering in those BMW mac strutcars

Easy enough to view an owners manual on line by searching. Here is one found using Google in PDF form. Page 266 has the capacity and specifications of different items. Not sure but this may be a Canadian version but also has US information
