The wife unit is looking for a small SUV. She is leaning towards the Honda CRV. Now I am doing the research on this car and see it now
only comes with the 1.5 turbo. Also it has the variable transmission. I had read of past issues with the 1.5 and fuel dilutions in oil. Did Honda fisx this issue and if so what the fix was? The next question is about the transmission. Good or bad or just service it regularly and it is like any other transmission. This car will be serviced by the dealership as required. I like the looks and room in it. No test drive yet.

Give this new video a look. AlexOnAutos(AoA) is one of the best(f not the best) and most popular car reviewer on Youtube.
This is his latest video that just came up today coincidently.

Also, watch the whole video especially when Alex compares the CR-V's direct competition(mainly the top 5 best sellers).

I would get one in a heartbeat

that powertrain runs many other Honda models as well; yet it remains to be seen one ditched to the side of the road

A few months ago I was helping a friend get a new SUV.
I was set on the RAV4 Hybrid and was close to closing a deal.
I found no one discounted the hybrids more than $500; the vehicle was just too hot.

My friend loved her old CR-V so I test drove 1 just for comparison.
The CR-V was more roomy, drove better and had better ergonomics.
We got a beautiful black EX-L 2WD. Mani loves it.
I would get one in a heartbeat. I guess the hybrid comes out soon; I imagine it will sell like hotcakes.

This isn't relevant to you in LA but I have a coworker who just returned his 2018 CRV to the dealer and bought a pilot. After months of issues with essentially no heat in the winter the dealer finally (and quietly) worked with him to take it back and get him in something else.

From the sounds of it this scenario isn't a one off for the CRV in the near arctic conditions we can get in the winter here. Especially coupled with short strip or in town driving.

I'm a longtime Honda fan, but I'd go for a RAV4 instead. Non-turbo engine and no CVT.

Forester? Subaru seems to be doing very well in reviews. One thing is visibilty, for me I might have to switch cars just because of that. But probably will accept I don't need good visibilty versus the trade in costs,, just more care.

At one point the LX still had a K24 is that no longer the case?

Not that i would be bothered by the 1.5t...

We own a 2019 RAV4 Hybrid Limited.
Drives great, great on fuel, surprising amount of power. The transmission is an eCVT ( geared mechanical electric ) and it just plain works.
Just a very good CUV.

With the Toyota Kentucky plant producing these now, supply should be less of an issue.
Would buy one again.

My Mom has an '18 CR-V. It's great looking, the interior is very nice looking and well laid out. She seems to really like it. I will say, when I drive it, the engine is a bit of a dog. Maybe a little more pressure on the gas pedal would resolve it but if I'm driving it with her, I haven't done that (nor have any need to).

The fuel dilution seems to be more hype than a real-world issue, unless you live in cold climates. I don't know if "South La" is South Louisiana or South Los Angeles but both are warm. Honda did perform some computer tweaks for owners but only those in Canada and the northernmost US states. Not sure if the lower states will see the changes later or not or if Honda is standing firm that in most cases, it's a non-issue.

they killed it with the current 2020 model so those are seen on all LX edition in 2017-2019

my mom has a 2017 EX. its got 27k miles on it. i check the oil regularly for her and it does not have any dilution issue. but she does mostly highway driving to the casino about 20 miles away so it heats up the car .

i like its a lot. the CVT is ok. its got good power for the size. the interior materials in the CRV are better in my opinion than a Rav4.

Definately compare it to the RAV4 and Forester with their new Global Platform. Both of them Blow the CR4 away. My sonhas aj CRV. If you like boring get the CRV.
