When I was 25 years old I would have thought this makes sense. Decades later, it makes less sense to just keep up with life instead of banking for older age when you aren't as physically capable of work, become blind, arthritic, ill, etc. Of course you can still over-do it, but don't assume that when you turn 60+, that everything is as easy as it was at a younger age.
