Bought a 2012 Ford Escape for the wife. Really great shape. Been doing some general maintenance on it, no problems so far. Went to pump out the old fluid in the transfer case, but none of my tubing for the pumps was small enough/flexible enough to fit down into the transfer case. The bolt had quite a bit of metal dirt on the magnet. I would like to get the old stuff out and put new in. Has anyone else drained and filled the transfer case and what did you use to get the old fluid out?

The PTU in my 04 has a drain but there were some utube vids of people changing the gear oil in the later versions which didn't have the drain plug.

There is a video for the earlier Escape models. Looks straighforward. I'm hoping you have drain plug in yours. It would be stupid if it doesn't.

The guy shows a pump for the fluid. I would buy something like this.

There is no drain plug everything is done through the fill plug like the rear diff. Rear diff was easy, but the PTU is my problem.
I need to be able to pump the fluid out. I’m good with the pump to get it back in. But I need a better tube to get it through the hole and to the bottom of the transfer case.

^ Then just buy some tubing with an OD that matches the ID of your existing tube, or an adapter to reduce the size a bit less so it doesn't take as long. Since I don't know what sizes you're dealing with, this is just a generic link on amazon but you might also find some at hardware or auto parts stores:

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=tubing+reducer&ref=nb_sb_noss

If you only have this ONE time use, you might be able to get by coupling two dissimilar size hoses with duct or electrical tape, or get a "few" uses if coupled with heatshrink tubing, or use caulking or whatever to seal them if you have time to let that set.

Vinyl tubing tends to be more flexible and seal (against another tube you slip it into) than some of hard plastic tubing types, and it helps visually that it's transparent. Some hardware stores sell it by the foot, I know my local mom 'n pop hardware store does but not sure about the big box stores. Checking Home Depot I do see 1/4" OD in 10ft length $3 but nothing smaller.

It's a bit conspicuous that you didn't mention what pump and tubing isn't working.

That’s what I was thinking of doing. I had to get tubing before from a local place for another car. I was just wondering if there was anyone in here with the same car and what they used.

This isn’t the same brand but it looks exactly the same as the pump I have: Koehler Enterprises RA990 Multi-Use Siphon Fuel Transfer Pump Kit (for Gas Oil and Liquids) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0181EDCZ6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_vIGlEbR3DN3NM

The small black tubing almost fit but it’s still a bit big and was too stiff. Probably just old.
