Hello,
Long time lurker time to post. This UOA has me a little worried, 6ppm every 1000 miles. The oil was Rotella T6 in 5W40. Oil was looking real watered down, 2k of the 5K was towing a 5th wheel from Texas up to Washington and in Oregon. Changed the Oil with T6 15W40. Hoping the iron rate drops with a little thicker oil! TIA.

From what I gather, the ISB6.7 sheds a lot of iron. Although "A lot" is relative. Is your mileage correct at just over 32,000? My 6.7 was making just over 7ppm/1000 miles when I tested the oil at 30,000 miles and 5ppm/1000 miles when tested at 45,000 miles.

You have a low mile count on that oil. The viscosity really did not change so it looks still serviceable.

Just to reiterate, Cummins specs 3% max on soot (yours was 0.2%) and 5% fuel (yours was not an issue).

Your engine is still really fresh and one analysis is only a snap shot of what is going on at that exact time. You need a lot more to build some data and see where your wear metals are trending.

Run your oil to the full 15k index and carry on.

I think the UOA looks good, I run 5w40 T6 in my 6.7L Cummins for 10k mile intervals with a Donaldson DBL filter. I could probably go longer but I don't.

Try running 10k and doing another UOA, then see how it looks and decide how far you want to go. What oil filter are you running?

Sounds pretty similar to mine I was at about 6ppm/1k miles @ 17.6k miles and then settled down to just over 4ppm/1k miles at just over 56k miles.

To the OP: Keep using the Donaldson DBL, they're the most efficient full flow available.

My 17 6.7 was drinking about 2 quarts of 5W40 Rotella every 12k miles, so I swapped it with Motul 15W40.

I've seen excessive T6 5w40 consumption in various 3.9s, 5.9s & 6.7s.

Back to normal when switched to 15w40s and 10w30s in either dino, semi-syn or full syn flavors.

Funny, my GL needed 3/4 of a quart after 1500 miles on my first T6 interval. Didnt burn any on M1 0/30 or Fuchs 5/40.
