Good day, I'm new to the group. I have a, naturally aspirated Diesel Land Rover. The engine oil spec is MIL-L-46152A. I've can't find that spec listed for oils available in Canada. Can anybody shed some light?
Thanks

See http://jdparts.deere.com/partsmkt/document/english/expert/featbene/DKE7413OilSalesGuide11-02.pdf

page 9 of 52 for conversions from Mil-L civilian specs. Mil-l-46152 and the gear lube specs you mentioned in your other post are obsolete specs and are nothing special, so you will have a wide variety of modern lubes to choose from.

Here's my so-so attempt to quote the table on p 9 of 52. The civilan spec appears right after the Mil spec.

The Mil spec oils typically meet more civilian specs than are listed in the following table. A recent Mil-L-2104x or Mil-PRF-2104x most likely will also meet SJ, SL or whatever API gas engine spec was in effect at the time

****

"In 1941, the military began qualifying engine oils.
The U.S. Army 2104 specification was issued that
year to cover oils meeting both Caterpillar and
General Motors requirements. The military has
continued to evaluate and classify engine oils as
engines became more sophisticated. Caterpillar
engine tests have continued to be the backbone of
any diesel engine oil evaluation program for the
military.
Military specifications also include gasoline
engine tests to evaluate the effect of engine oil
quality on bearing corrosion, engine wear and
engine deposits such as rust, sludge and varnish.
Recent changes in military procurement
regulations now allow the purchase of
lubricants meeting applicable industry
specifications for use in most military
equipment.

P 17 mentions the gear lube you asked about

"MIL-L-2105
This has been a long-standing performance level of
gear oils determined by test sequences which define
MIL-L-2105 Standards. Products meeting this
specification are of the API GL-4 type.
While the specification MIL-L-2105 is now
obsolete, replaced by the current specification
MIL-PRF-2105E, it is still widely used to indicate
a performance level for some gear oils."

Well it looks like any CH-4 oil will do the trick as it is higher then what is needed. You would be hard pressed to find a 15W40 or 5W40 that does not meet CH-4.

The gear lube is kind of crazy! I do n ot know anyone that makes a GL4 product specificly for rear diffs! The few companys that make a GL4 type product make them for manual transmissions. Their are alot of gear lubes that will state GL4/GL5 ont hem though!

It's an obsolete US military spec for internal combustion engine oil. I will take alook later today and see if I can find out what has superceded it.

46152 was primarily for the less expensive vehicles. Mil-L-2104x then later Mil-PRF-2104x was used in the more expensive equipment.
