It looks like certain Akebono part numbers now include the same hardware that many aftermarket pads have included for years.

The wear indicators are also stainless steel (they look identical to the OE ones). I think at one point they were not stainless.

What's so great about the Akebonos? I have a 2005 Accord with the up-spec'ed front brake calipers (some peculiarity of the I-4 Coupes built for the Canadian market), and ended up just buying a set of close-out Raybestos Quietstop ceramics for $15 for it. No hardware kit. My hardware looks to be in good shape.

Is it just because Akebono is rumoured to be the OEM supplier? Is it just one of those Japanese car "snob" things, don't put brake pads from the more 'traditional' US aftermarket brands?

"Avoid the use of aerosol ...brake cleaners", whats up with that?

These pads are good and match OEM pads from the likes of Toyota and Honda.

That's actually not true. Aftermarket Akebono's often are different than the OEM supplied Akebono pads. Even The Critic acknowledges this.

Here's my OEM Akebono front brake pads ($90+):

Just the fact that they are mfg in USA is a positive to me.
So many brake parts these days are from suspect quality mfgrs in India and China.
My experience with Akebono aftermarket on a Jeep and a Cadillac was good.

The pictures of pads (or any auto part) are often generic representations so I wouldn't base anything off of "stock" photos from their website, Rockauto, etc. Buy the actual part numbers and take pictures for accuracy.

I agree that you have to be very careful. In this case, I verified my pictures of the OEM Akebono that I removed from my vehicle (edge code AK NS265H FF). Here is one picture with OEM box (Mopar 68020494AB): https://www.amazon.com/Mopar-68020494AB-Front-Brake-Shoe/dp/B006DX1TOY (good price!)

I looked at a set of the Akebono at Advanced Auto and the ACT866A can be verified here: https://partcat.com/akebono

With this thread in mind, thought I'd look up my last Akebono ProAct purchase using Rock Auto, ACT787 which came without hardware. Appears for RA at least they offer two choices for the same pads now. The first same as previous, same part number. The second, ACT787B with hardware, ~$2 more. Don't know how other applications and retailers are handling this, however based on RA info I wouldn't take for granted that all Akebono Pro Act pads now include hardware.

Over time, they will be phasing in the new part numbers that include hardware:

https://akebonobrakes.com/hardware

https://akebonobrakes.com/sites/default/files/AK212.pdf

It sounds like there is a lot of existing inventory. Once those part numbers are sold out, only the new part numbers will be available.
