A 13 year old bottom line S-class went for $14,000 over 20 years ago? Seriously? A 2006 S430 these days is $5-6K car.

Not sure about that model, but there's a big difference in price between a 2013 and a 2014 S class. Mainly due to the new body style of the 2014+ models. Not sure if that was the case back then. Also people tend to pay more for low mileage but I agree that's not that big a consideration when the car is already 13 years old.

I guess my current car, 2012 Infiniti FX50s, sticker says $65K, I paid ~$23K w/ 90K miles on it. I'll let you know when I sell it.

The most expensive one I have bought was my first car, an 87 Oldsmobile Cutlass for $3500 safetied. It had beautiful paint, looked great and had just under 120k miles. Unfortunately I was 17 and not that experienced yet, it turned out the floor and frame were getting pretty rusty. I drove the p*ss out of it for 5 years and about 70k miles before I replaced it with my current 84 Cutlass. That one was $1800 and my Caprice was $1500. All of my cars the past 19 years combined probably cost less than the average persons used car purchase.

The 420 was the mid-range model: the 300 was the 6-cylinder, the 420 was the smaller V-8, and the 560 was the big one. Plus mine had low mileage and was in top-notch condition. And this was Denver, CO, even then not the cheapest place to live in America.

The later you go with MBs, the more electrical and electronic gadgets you have to deal with. The '86 was really a very simple car and very easy to take care of and repair.

I bought a 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 off ebay sight-unseen in 2011 for $15.5k. Original sticker was ~$96k.

Sold it in 2017 for $37k after having put 50k miles on it; doubt I'll ever see that type ROI on a car ever again.

Well, my '68 Vette was like $13K. I probably have $60K in it ; probably a lot more. Dunno. Don't want to know.
Dave Ramsey will make a video about my stupidity and wasted $$.
