I agree on the 5k oci.
That's way too short especially since the OCI is 10k per the manual
So you cite your owners manual in defense of a higher oci but ignore the owners manual recommendation (10k) in doing 15k mile drain intervals. Now that's what i call having it both ways! ...‚
Here's a novel idea; do a 10k mile run on your fave 5w30 and do a uoa w/fuel dilution and let that guide you. If it shows you're out of grade, bump it up. If not, stick with it. Easy peazy, lemon squeezy...
I have done UOA's, one was posted on here even and at 15k miles it had like 5-6% dilution and was in the 20wt range. So here we are, bumping it up, to a 40wt and seeing what happens.
You seem to be dead set on disregarding the owners manual recommendation...why isn't going back to a 10k oci with a thick 5w30 an equal consideration? Especially given it's in line with what's in the owners manual. I mean seriously, are you so busy that doing one more oci every 2yrs gonna cramp your style? If so, might i suggest ditching the dyi thing and consider using a Valvoline Ctr if you're that busy...The way i see it, the UOA @15k isn't saying "you're good, you just need to go up a grade" rather it's telling me, "you've pushed it too far.. you outta consider turning it down a notch".
But hey, that's just me.. your car, you do you. M_H out..
