is home alarm monitoring really worth it?

For the self installer I prefer the wireless equipment from 2gig which I know inside and out, qolsys is another system many professionals love.
There are many retailers for this equipment and better low cost monitoring such as below;

What do you think of Ring? It seems they differ a bit from other companies and emphasize notification of malicious activity before there is an intrusion. Their multitude of cameras seem to be of high quality and reputation. I understand they also offer a monitored service if you get the home package with sensors, etc.

I cant comment on Ring (except for one thing) I really do not pay much attention to the high markup discount store stuff. I mentioned the stuff in posts above this that I use.

Now with that said, as you know, anything is better then nothing, but I cant comment on the Ring stuff except for one of their products that I just helped my neighbors son install, since they asked me.

He bought a Ring outdoor camera and spotlight set up and my neighbor asked me if I would install it for him*L* It wasn't fun, two stories up and leaning over a ladder with its feet on a wood deck... anyway.
Wow, I was impressed with the quality feel of the unit AND the video quality. Its not cheap and again, why I guess its good. Its an outdoor 2 spotlight motion detector with camera. Very impressive for a consumer item.
