That said, I've noticed that the people who have an issue with their posts being removed, threads locked, etc, generally probably need to step away from the keyboard for a while and get themselves centered on what's really important, and that is most everything that is not in their own control. If someone reports my posts, that's their prerogative. Whether I would report a post or think my post deserves a report is besides the point, if someone else feels the need to do so then that's their right. If a mod locks my thread, deletes my post, or whatever, then it probably needed to be done and if I can't understand that, then maybe it's me who needs to step back. I'm sorry you feel this way, as this can be a great site, but like all sites, some members contribute more than others and you can't let people get to you. By the way, I haven't been here long, but when I've seen a thread locked for political talk, it's usually been pretty obvious and very cut and dry. Ultimately, this isn't the forum for those discussions and allowing that talk in a forum not designed for that purpose does a lot more damage than locking threads or deleting posts.

Thank you.

That’s well-stated.

Been here since before 2000 (in 2002 a server issue removed all dates, hence none older than 2002), and find this probably the most respectful forum I have been on. I got warned one time over a word in my post, I don't even remember what it was, but I am sure it was prolly deserved. The OP sounds like a former member who reincarnated himself to post his grievance with another/other member. I would dare to say the post, and the apparent PM sent by him, should be noted to the mods. Death threats are not anything to joke about in this day and age.

Couldn't have said it better. Thanks friend.

Essentially since such sites are publishing entities and located in the USA, they should abide by US law...and the First Amendment is the law when it comes to speech even a small minority (one persons') viewpoint. Free Speech should never be abridged.

We should plead with the owner that paying members get their own section, that only they can access, and anything goes in there. Profanity, politics, you name it.

Since it is a privately owned site, 'free speech' is not a right. Free speech is also limited towards the government itself. The forum has the right to censor anything it deems necessary to fulfill its directives.

But I do like the idea of the "Pay to Say" part that RDY4WAR mentioned! gladiator

Actually, that’s not true at all. Even “essentially”.

This isn’t a public accommodation or publishing entity.

You agreed to the rules when you signed up for an account.

You were free to choose, and you chose to sign up, knowing that certain topics, and the use of profanity, were off limits. That said, opinions on topics are not censored here. You can be wrong in every way, as part of a technical, or professional, discussion, and your posts still stand. But you still have to treat others decently, and avoid the big three off limit topics.

Can you honor your agreement?

Are you able to express your opinion without the use of a very limited set of vocabulary?

Free speech and other liberties also carries with them certain responsibilities..

Each level of organization has guidelines that must be followed. This website is privately owned and so it is your responsibility, as a continued guest here, to abide by those guidelines.

I'm relatively new to this board but try to contrast and compare to other boards I utilize. I find that sometimes I will write something that after I re-read it later, I do regret. That being said, I think you will find the same group of individuals that seem to attract these negative rejoinder posts won't move on and are attracted to the results of their actions. Of course they will immediately report you if they feel the least slighted. This happens on every board. I can only imagine that the same folks that are internet bullies would soil themselves in real life if they were personally confronted. This is a board that deals with mostly oil related matters so it strikes me as odd that some members whine so loudly when a question that has been debated a million times comes up again. Don't involve yourself in these posts if it damages your sensibilities is all I can suggest. There are many threads on this board I don't open. They either don't interest me or I find the subject personally objectionable. Why some individuals on this and other boards go out of their way to open posts just to lambaste the poster is insane. Those that foment negativity in this way are puzzling to me.

That was a really mean one to me by the way. I don’t mind being called out for technical inaccuracies and speaking outside of my competence, but wishing me death is a bit over the top isn’t it?

If that actually happened to me … a redacted copy/paste would be posted here ...

Other than that … This started out as one of the strangest lectures ever posted here …

Yeah, well, truth be told, there are a few “personalities”...who seem eager for conflict, who take offense easily. They’re given a chance to modify their behavior, to comply with the forum rules.

They usually end up on vacation or banned anyway...and sometimes, they return under a false identity...
