don't know about other parts of the country, and don't really care about anywhere but here, but I have bought new and used trailers several times in my life and I have yet to have not sold for equal to or more than I paid. Same with OLD now considered antique, small farm tractors. Pickups I usually sold for a little less than I had invested after a few years of use. And cars. Well, I usually lose lots on cars. Newer ones, not OLD ones.

I never gave these rigs a thought in my life.
However, if a seller has replaced what sounds like fragile stuff (perishable bearings and brakes) and the hydraulics are good (they're kind of rugged, no?) I could see it as a "Pay & Drive Away" kind of transaction. The buyer needs one fast and answers your ad.

It's a fact sellers want more for their cars when they go to sell. Same for dump trailers?

Definitely. Around tax return time 4x4 truck prices go through the roof here, and people buy them. Clapped out, rusty, “trans slips but only when cold!/“just needs a tune up!” (It’s always more than just a tune up) pick ups selling for 3-4K easily.

But yes... Different regions=different pricing. Op is pretty close to the ocean in California, not fair to compare whats being sold on the opposite side of the country.

Remember that things in CA tend to be more expensive than in the rest of the country-what one sells for in the Midwest (where they're likely built) is going to be less than shipping a new one to CA & buying it. At least a CA dump trailer won't have CA emissions!

I've been busy with our annual plant shutdown, planning a move out of state, holidays, and winding down my side business so I have no had time to follow up on this thread. The trailer sold in three days for $4,000.
