REJOICE HONDA FANS!

email from Stellar Automotive Group / International Lubricants Inc.:

Thank you for contacting us!

Unfortunately, neither the 20902 or 23232 is recommended in Honda units due to the viscosity.
We will be introducing a Honda specific formula that should be available in January.

You can use our Power Steering Fluid Protectant # 20404. It is fully compatible with Honda PSF: https://www.lubegard.com/products/psf-protectant/.

Please let me know if I can do anything else.

Best regards

happy happy happy

O'Reilly house brand Honda fluid comes in a quart size.
I have used it in several TSXs and other Hondas.

It would be nice if all Hondas still had fluid pumps in 2020. smirk

some good insight with Honda Genuine Power Steering Fluid, it supposedly has very high kinematic viscosity ~ 54 cSt @ 40c, 11.3 cSt @ 100c and has different friction modifiers (zinc???)...

https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/1302729/2

in theory I can just add some honey-thick Lucas Transmission Fix to regular power steering fluid to bring it up to proper viscosity and add Lubegard Red/Platinum/Black for its friction modifiers, just use this viscosity calculator and mix and mix to your delight!

Honda Genuine Power Steering Fluid
54 cSt @ 40c, 11.3 cSt @ 100c

Lucas Power Steering Fluid

Prestone Power Steering Fluid for Asian Vehicles
53.01 cSt @ 40c - not rated at 100c

Prestone Power Sterring Fluid AS-260/261/265/266Y (gallon jug)
42.2-49.6 cSt @ 40c - not rated at 100c

Lubegard Complete Synthetic Power Steering Fluid
36.29 cSt @ 40c, 6.64 cSt @ 100c

Amsoil Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Power Steering Fluid
33.8 cSt @ 40c, 7.5 cSt @ 100c

Red Line Power Steering Fluid
31 cSt @ 40c, 7 cSt @ 100c

Lucas Transmission Fix
48.0 cSt @ 100c - not rated at 40c

Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak
45.0 cSt @ 100c - not rated at 40c

-

with a viscosity calculator...

39.16% of Lucas Transmission Fix
60.84% of Lubegard Complete Power Steering Fluid
will yield 11.3 cSt @ 100c

28.66% of Lucas Transmission Fix
71.34% of Red Line Power Steering Fluid
will yield 11.3 cSt @ 100c

19.49% of Lubegard Complete Power Steering Fluid

Lubegard is focused on the aftermarket, kind of like Valvoline's MaxLife line of products... you know... for people who buy used and those that keep their vehicles way past warranty!

LOL

In the past from my searching through the LubeGard site, ILI had/has a Honda P/S fluid and a P/S fluid converter/conditioner that converts any P/S fluid into Honda-like P/S fluid and the bottles mentioned HONDA on the labels.

Is this still the case?
Is this new to come P/S fluid for electric P/S units?

first part - yes:
https://www.lubegard.com/products/psf-protectant/
viscosity: 29.8-35.2 cSt @ 40c, 7.0-8.0 cSt @ 100c
since you only add 4oz of the stuff, it will barely bump up the viscosity... the Honda conversion claim is mainly due to its friction modifier additive package...

second part - no:
Honda Electric Power Steering systems do not use any hydraulic fluids!
Although some domestic & import EPS do use hydraulics and Lubegard claims it's PS protectant helps those too...

Ah yes, OK thanks!
My Altima has e-PSF but Nissan wants a bunch of $ for it. I don't have any issues with the system but, would like to top off the system or flush it entirely.

I've heard somewhere that way back in the day Honda had major problems with their steering racks, huge recalls, and that Honda Genuine Power Steering Fluid Spec-V along with its special seals solved it...

Some good insights here from page 2:

An SDS won't tell you the formulation.

Here is a properties sheet of the original Honda PS-2 Honda PN 08208-99961;

This is the original HONDA PERFORMANCE PS-2 FLUID used in the earlier Hondas and Acuras

Appearance Lt. Pale
Flash, COC, Deg F. 355
Pour Point, Deg F. -40
Viscosity, cSt
At 40 C. 53.75
At 100 C. 11.34 (The Prestone Asian Formula is similar)
Viscosity Index MIN 205
Viscosity, Brookfield cP @ -40C < 64000
Oxidation Stability, D-2272 > 200 minutes
Copper Corrosion 3A Max.
Zn Content, ppm. 1500 - Anti-Wear and Anti-Oxidant from ZDDP (not a friction modifier)
P Content, ppm. 1300 - Anti-Wear and Anti-Oxidant from ZDDP (not a friction modifier)
Mg Content, ppm 580 - See Ca
Ca Content, ppm 220 - The Mg-Ca combo serves as both a TBN adjuster and as a Friction Modifier
TBN, ASTM D-4739 5.0

The newer Honda/Acura PSF PN 08206-9002 PF has the following basic properties:

API Gravity / lbs./gal. 32.6 / 7.18
Flash Point, PMCC ºC 92
Viscosity:
cSt @ 40ºC - 31.4
cSt @ 100ºC - 6.5
Viscosity Index 167
Pour Point, max, ºF / ºC -50 / -45

Check your Honda/Acura Operator's Manual for the correct part number.
