Will a 9688 fit on a car that takes a 7317? I know the 6607 will just not a fan of the size. Unless the size of the 6607 on a 1.5 Honda engine

If it's for your Fit, probably not. A lot of the newer Hondas have a surround that blocks the fatter 3593/9688 from fitting on.

Why do you want to use the 9688? The PH7317 is the OE filter, and the TG7317 is much better than OEM for the same price.

Napa has the Platinum 47356 for only $5.99, so that would be my choice right now

It could depend on the year and model. Being most familiar with Accord, starting in 2008 with 8th generation pan/block restriction prevents the 9688/3593a from being screwed on. Too wide. There's several posts/threads here that discussed the change and pics showing the restriction, Paul's travel pics site being one source

Not as familiar with 1.5L engine. If nothing surrounding it like pan/block or restriction ring, might fit. That said, for a regularly maintained engine, very little to be gained using the 9688 over the spec 7317, 'imo'.

Sure it will work fine, quick lubes do it all the time. If you have one on hand I wouldn't waste it. Just next time, I'd go back to 7317.

The 7317 is a very common filter that is always available

There is no reason to use the shorty 6607. The only time they do it is in those shady lube shops where they consolidate filters to have fewer part numbers in stock. But if you're doing it yourself, get the 7317.

Why do you want to use the 6607?

Yep, the 7317 is plenty big enough for any Honda engine.

9688 and 7317 are both 20x1.5mm thread, have similar gasket size and similar bypass.
As mentioned, they can be interchanged so long as there is physical space for the filter to fit.

I have used 6607, 7317, 3593a and 9688 on the same vehicle with no issues.
