Sounds about right to me. I'd be nervous if someone quoted under a grand.

no car only has 103 K on it new brakes and tires for wisconsin winters so it looks like a new clutch for the car and let her run it for a year to try yo recoup some of the cash she has spent

That’s the supercharged motor, right?

I have the Chevy version of that car. Clutch was about $ 1800 and I believe I provided most of my own parts (GMPP clutch upgrade kit, flywheel, etc.)

The clutch is a HUGE PITA on these. Also problematic with the control arm bushing cage nut becoming seized from road salt. Without removing this you cannot drop the subframe. You need to do this to remove the trans from the motor. I had to have them drill and tap mine.

Recently put a clutch in a 2007 Cobalt SS LSJ.....You don't want any of that even if you were healthy!

It will most likely need a Flywheel as well, ZZP sells a replacement LSJ one at a decent price! It's a German made Opel/GM product & is expensive from a dealer.
It cannot be resurfaced on a blanchard grinder!

I think the 2007 Cobalt SS LSJ and the 2007 Ion Redline are identical in regards to engine, trans, front suspension etc. The body-chassis and bodywork is very different, and there are subtle differences in the exhaust system in regards to overall length, hanger position etc. Most aftermarket exhaust systems are interchangeable. ZZP is one of the few outfits that sells quality parts for this engine- I have their stainless exhaust.
