This is meant to be serious.

For a long time we had sedans and station wagons.
The sedan was your rolling living room and the station wagons had more room in back. They lifted the trunk lid and added 3 pieces of glass.
When my own mother said, "We can't get a station wagon, they're so big.", I thought it was the stupidest thing I had ever heard.

So now the industry learned that all people don't need low-to-the-ground seating and that a higher seat is actually funner to drive.
So the industry adapted.

I got news for you, vehicles have 4 wheels and an engine.
What's all the hub-bub about a particular shape (and name) of car shape being pushed out for something more practical?
Still got 4 wheels, 4 doors....What's everybody's problem?

OOhhh my goodness! Ford isn't making CARS anymore? OMG Buick isn't making CARS anymore?
Are you, stoned? Of course they're making cars. Call the darn things cars and get over it.

And I'm not over-reacting. I think people are trained now-a-days to over-react.

Nobody died when the Renault Dauphine was no longer available and nobody will die when the last Regal (hey, I like 'em too) rolls off the assembly line.

BTW, how many do they sell in China? Anybody know?

Buick in the US will now be just offering SUVs.

When they sold Opel, it was clear this would happen.

I'm hoping-assuming that parts for my '15 LaCrosse will still be available via the Cadillac XTS and Chevy Impala.

2015 LaCrosse 26,000
2009 Outback 86,000
2002 Corolla 101,000

5W30 X 3. The Buick gets the pricey oil.

And if it does, the nimble car manufacturer will profit and the ones late to the party will suffer.

Doubtful. The SUVs of 2000's were getting, what 8-15MPG, Maybe 18-20 if you were lucky. Today's CUVs get 20-30+ and give up next to nothing. Even if gas goes to $5/gallon few would trade for a sedan that may get 35MPG.

I'm in China right now. A LOT of Buicks on the road here. Explains the reason why the brand survived when Olds/Pontiac didn't.

Actually, Tesla sells every Model 3 they can make.
As you say, in an overall declining market.

there are better cars for less, so why bother with GM or even Ford!! with everything today you see Globally meaning parts from wherever from the lowest bidder, + it might be assembled in USA. the thousands of lo mile wheel hub assemblies are a testament to that +parts are the biggest cost for todays vehicles, excluding all the robotics that are fun or fed by fewer overpaid auto workers, but not as OVERPAID as the CEO's that do little. girlfriend wanted another GM after two good VW's + a poor subaru, her new in 13 2.5LS malibu was an oil burner among other other issues, NO more GM's!!

To me, the most recent "very nice" car that no one seemed to buy was the Chevy SS/Pontiac G8 GT&GXP. If you were to look at the classic American archetype of the family sedan that also kept "Dad" feeling like he wasn't obsolete, that platform checked almost all the boxes. Good looks (albeit a little soft on the SS), tons of available power and options, handled well, rode very well (especially with the magnetic dampers in the SS), decent fuel mileage, etc... the list goes on, but the sales never did. Now GM went and killed Holden altogether, so we'll likely never again see an American sedan of its ilk... frown

Not surprised, and not upset about it. The TourX is great ride for anyone wanting a comfortable riding wagon. It will be a future classic maybe?

GM made a few of those in the 2000s if you include the SSR. The SSR even had a manual trans available!

The Magnum has better chance to be future classic imo.

Mercedes and BMW don't seem to have any problems selling them. Neither do Toyota or Honda.
